Shining in the Darkness

I have a beautiful gift that my Assistant gave me during a very difficult time in my life. It is one of my favorite things that anyone has ever given me. It is a beautiful picture of an eternal flame that reads, “The darker the night gets, the brighter the light hits.” I have it framed and in my office to remind me that there are seasons in life when the night feels long, heavy, and uncertain. Darkness can press in on every side, bringing questions, weariness, and even doubt. Yet, Scripture reminds us of a powerful truth: the darker the night, the more brilliant the light of Christ shines.

In the Gospel of John, we are told, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” John 1:5. Darkness does not extinguish light; it reveals it. It is in the hardest moments, the deepest valleys, and the quietest nights that the presence of God becomes most evident.

When the world feels dim, even the smallest light becomes impossible to ignore. In the same way, when life is at its darkest, the hope, peace, and truth of Jesus shine with unmistakable clarity. What once may have seemed distant becomes nearby. What once felt like a flicker becomes a steady flame.

This is not because the darkness is good, but because God is greater. He does not abandon us in the night; He meets us there. The night may be long, but it is never without purpose. It is often in these moments that our faith is refined, our dependence deepens, and our testimony is formed.

So, if you find yourself in a season of darkness, take heart! The light has not left you. In fact, it may be shining more brightly than ever before. Hold on to the promise that morning is coming, and until it does, let the light of Christ guide your steps, strengthen your heart, and remind you that darkness never has the final word!

Blessings,

Carson
